Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Q: How do I sign up? Download LocalPony from the App Store, create an account with your email, and you'll get a 3-day free trial of Pro features. After the trial, Pro is $10.99/month (or $19.99/month for service providers).

Q: Do I have to be in Texas? Weather tracking and horse profiles work anywhere. The provider directory and local events are Texas-only for now. We're expanding to other states based on demand.

Q: What does the free trial include? The full Pro experience — unlimited horses, all features, everything. No credit card required to start the trial, but you'll need to subscribe to keep access after day 3.

Blanket Tracker

Q: How does LocalPony decide when to blanket? We use your local weather forecast combined with each horse's individual temperature threshold. Default threshold is 40°F, but you can customize it per horse — some horses run hot, some run cold, and clipped horses need blankets sooner.

Q: Can I set different thresholds for different horses? Yes! Go to any horse's profile → tap the blanket section → set their individual threshold. You can also mark them as clipped (+10°F), senior (+5°F), or set fully custom thresholds on Pro.

Q: Will I get notifications when it's time to blanket? Yes, if you've enabled push notifications. You'll get a daily evening notification with recommendations for all your horses: "Tonight's call: Chief → Heavy Blanket, Dusty → Light Sheet."

Q: What if I live in an area without good weather data? Enter a ZIP code on the home screen to override your GPS location. Weather data comes from Open-Meteo which covers most of North America and Europe.

Barn Integration

Q: How does barn integration work? If your boarding barn is on LocalPony, the barn staff can post daily blanket calls, feed updates, and announcements directly to your horse's profile. You see everything in one place.

Q: How do I link my horse to my barn? From your horse's profile, tap "Add to a Barn" and search for your barn. If they're on LocalPony, they'll get a request to approve. Once approved, you'll start seeing their updates.

Q: My barn isn't on LocalPony. What can I do? Tell them about it! Share the app with your barn manager. It's free for boarders and gives barns a dashboard to manage boarders, post blanket calls, and send announcements. Barns pay the provider tier ($19.99/month).

Trading Post / Classifieds

Q: Why can't I put my phone number in a listing? For your safety. Most horse scams happen when the scammer moves the conversation off-platform (phone, text, Zelle) where there's no record. LocalPony requires all buyer/seller communication to happen in the app. This creates a record if something goes wrong.

Q: How do I message a seller? Tap "Message Seller" on any listing. The conversation is kept in your Inbox.

Q: How do I know if a listing is legit? We have several safeguards:

But you still need to do your own due diligence:

If a listing seems suspicious, tap the flag icon to report it.

Q: I got scammed. What do I do? We're sorry. Report the listing in the app (it'll help protect others), and contact local law enforcement to file a report. Horse theft and fraud are criminal offenses. Email team@localpony.app and we'll freeze the scammer's account.

Provider Directory

Q: I'm a farrier/vet/trainer. How do I claim my listing? Sign up for a provider account using the email your business is listed under. We'll auto-claim your listing. If we don't have you in the directory, you can create a new listing.

Q: My business info is wrong. How do I fix it? Claim your listing (above) and edit it directly, or email team@localpony.app with corrections.

Q: How do reviews work? Users can leave reviews on provider profiles after interacting with them. Providers can respond to reviews. We don't filter reviews — but we do remove reviews that contain harassment, slander, or false information.

Subscriptions

Q: How do I cancel? iOS Settings → Apple ID (top of screen) → Subscriptions → LocalPony → Cancel. You'll keep access until the end of the current billing period.

Q: Can I get a refund? All refunds are processed by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and request a refund directly. We cannot issue refunds on our end.

Q: What happens when I cancel? You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to free tier — you'll still have your horses, posts, and messages, but some Pro features will be locked.

Q: Is there a lifetime option? Not currently. If there's demand, we might offer one later.

Account & Privacy

Q: How do I delete my account? Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes all your data within 30 days. This cannot be undone.

Q: Is my location tracked? Only if you grant permission, and only for weather-based blanket recommendations. We don't share your location with other users or sell it to anyone. You can disable location in iOS Settings and use ZIP codes instead.

Q: Who can see my posts?

Q: What happens to my data if I delete my account? Permanently removed within 30 days. Backups may persist up to 90 days for disaster recovery, then fully purged.
